Over the weekend I received a number of requests
from constituents asking me to sign a petition on banning the public sale of
fireworks in shops and supermarkets.
I have a policy of not signing petitions as I am a
member of the Commons Petitions Committee, which considers public petitions
presented to the Commons and e-petitions submitted through the Parliamentary
and Government websites.
However I note the concerns raised by the petition
and look forward to taking part in the parliamentary debate on the issues it
raises when the petition receives enough signatures.
